Backup Windows
Windows XP includes its own backup program, although you may need
to do some digging to find it. You can also take your pick of
third-party programs (listed at the end of this column) that add
bells and whistles you won't find in the basic Windows XP Backup
utility.
Recovery Console
Because the Recovery Console is quite powerful, it is recommended
for use only by advanced users or administrators. The Windows
Recovery Console is designed to help you recover when your
computer does not start properly or does not start at all.
Repair Disk Errors
In addition to running Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter to
optimize the performance of your computer, you can check the
integrity of the files stored on your hard disk by running the
Error Checking utility.
Disk Defragmenter
Disk fragmentation slows the overall performance of your system.
When files are fragmented, the computer must search the hard disk
when the file is opened to piece it back together. The response
time can be significantly longer.

Learn Flash
The Internet was started in the early '90s as a way to share
documents electronically. A simple method called HTTP (Hypertext
Transfer Protocol) was designed for trading files, and a simple
format called HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) was designed for
those files. Virtually every web site you have ever seen has used
these technologies.
Photoshop
Basics
When you launch Photoshop, it displays an image called a splash
screen while it's loading the program. The Photoshop splash
screen is shown in Figure 1-4. You can use the splash screen to
check version information. It looks like the screen you see when
you select Help > About Photoshop from the main menu in
Photoshop.
